About Morse Code Coach
What this site is
Morse Code Coach is a free, independent web trainer and reference for International Morse code. It was built for one purpose: to let anyone learn to read and send Morse code in a single focused day, without downloading anything or creating an account, and then keep practising with messages that are actually fun to decode — famous quotes, proverbs, notes between friends, secret-agent transmissions and ship-to-shore radio traffic.
How the trainer is designed
- Character set and timing follow ITU-R Recommendation M.1677-1, the international standard for Morse code: dot 1 unit, dash 3 units, 1 unit between elements, 3 between characters, 7 between words.
- Lesson order uses the Koch method sequence popularised by trainers such as LCWO and G4FON (K M R S U A P T L O W I . N J E F 0 Y , V G 5 / Q 9 Z H 3 8 B ? 4 2 7 C 1 D 6 X), two new characters per lesson with continuous review of earlier ones.
- Spacing uses Farnsworth timing as recommended by the ARRL: characters are sent at 15 words per minute, gaps are stretched to an effective 8 WPM, and both can be changed in the settings.
- Sending practice turns the space bar (or an on-screen button on phones) into a straight key and decodes the keying live, adapting to the learner’s own tempo.
- Motivation comes from XP, levels, ranks, badges and daily streaks — but the learning content never changes with the game layer.
Who is behind it
Morse Code Coach is created, written and maintained by Robin Ersek-Obadovics, a web developer and SEO specialist. Robin built the trainer to learn Morse code himself, then published it so anyone can do the same for free. You can read more about his work at robinersek.com.

The guide below the trainer is written and maintained by Robin Ersek-Obadovics. Historical dates and technical claims are checked against primary sources (ITU, Library of Congress, IMO, ARRL) listed in the Sources section. We review the guide whenever the trainer changes and at least twice a year, and we publish the last-updated date at the top of the article. If you find a mistake, tell us and we will fix it and note the correction.

Your name, progress, XP and settings are stored only in your own browser; the site has no accounts and no server-side tracking of learners. Details are in the privacy policy.
